I would never call myself a minimalist,
but there are times when less is more. Such is the case with this still
life composition in watercolor. The true impact of this painting is lost
in digital reproduction. The lady who framed it said it caused quite a
stir in her shop.
The table setting for two in blue on
white is the only spot of color in the entire painting. The wooden
table, cane-bottomed wooden chairs, wood floor and walls are almost
scorched by the light from the window while the shadow are so deep that
you can almost imagine a spider hiding there.
I enjoyed painting this and it is
currently hanging in my own personal collection - one of my personal
favorites.
